Training and Development Experts Join Altman Weil

Newtown Square, PA, March 1, 2011 — David Freeman and Joan Newman have joined legal management consultancy Altman Weil, Inc. as adjunct consultants.  Both are highly-regarded specialists who train and coach lawyers in professional development skills.

“To be successful in a law firm in 2011, lawyers must be more than just good practitioners,” said Altman Weil principal James Wilber. “They need to be able to develop a significant book of business, build relationships with clients, work and delegate efficiently and take on leadership roles.  Professional training and coaching are invaluable tools to achieve these ends.”

For 16 years, David Freeman has specialized in business development and sales training, planning and coaching.  He has worked with thousands of lawyers and leaders to help them build thriving practices.  He also works with law firms to develop and improve their cross-selling and client service programs, and build high-performance teams.  A former practicing lawyer, he has been a consultant for law firms and corporations like Sun Microsystems, Zurich Financial Services, Agilent Technologies, and Olin Corporation.

Joan Newman coaches law firm partners and associates as well as in-house counsel to improve their leadership, professional and business development skills.  She also advises on the new discipline of Legal Project Management, helping law firms improve process efficiency.  Prior to becoming a coach and consultant, she was a senior partner at Thompson Coburn LLP where she sat on the Management Committee and led the firm’s associate training and development program.

“We are delighted to welcome David and Joan to Altman Weil,” said Altman Weil principal Tom Clay.  “Their expertise and hands-on experience will be a great asset to our clients as they navigate an increasing competitive marketplace.”
