Altman Weil Website Gets Highest Rating for Legal Consultant Sites
Altman Weil, Inc, international consultants to the legal profession, has received a four-star rating for its web site www.altmanweil.com. The rating appears in The Essential Guide to the Best (and Worst) Legal Sites on the Web authored by Robert J. Ambrogi, Esq. and published by ALM Publishing, the trade book division of American Lawyer Media.
Altmanweil.com received its four-star rating for the breadth and depth of its content. “Altman Weil is one of the oldest and best known management consulting firms for the legal profession, and its web site has probably the largest library of articles on the topic,” Mr. Ambrogi notes in his review. “They cover law department and law firm management, outsourcing, alternative billing, technology, marketing, strategic planning, economic and financial management, human resources and organizational psychology."
Of the nineteen management consultant sites reviewed, only Altman Weil and one other organization scored four stars.
Since it was reviewed last year, the Altman Weil web site has continued to add new features and content. The Article Library currently contains almost 200 articles, conveniently categorized by topic. A Book Review page provides Altman Weil consultants’ recommendations for new and classic titles for lawyers and law firm managers.
The most recent addition to the site is the Altman Weil Weekly Poll. Each week site visitors vote on a question relevant to legal organizations and immediately see the cumulative results of the voting. An archive of all polls is maintained on the site giving a quick read on industry trends such as associate hiring and retention, billable hours, law firm revenues, and de-equitization of law firm partners.
The Altman Weil COMPStore is a unique feature of www.altmanweil.com. With it individual lawyers can purchase customized compensation data online. Currently the COMPStore makes law department salary data available. A similar product for law firm compensation is in development.
Robert J. Ambrogi pioneered legal web site reviewing, introducing “legal.online,” his syndicated column, in 1995. He edited a newsletter of the same name – the first periodical reviewing online legal resources. His web site evaluations are made from the perspective of a practicing lawyer, and are based on overall usefulness to legal professionals, content, design and presentation, accessibility and ease of use, and innovation.
