Ward Bower is a principal of Altman Weil, Inc. He heads consulting assignments in law firm strategy, partnership planning and compensation-related issues and has facilitated some of the largest law firm mergers in the world. He is a key adviser on retainer to a number of major law firms.
Mr. Bower has authored articles for numerous publications, including The American Lawyer, National Law Journal, ABA Journal, International Financial Law Review and Legal Week. His comments on the legal scene have appeared in legal, business and general publications ranging from Of Counsel to the New York Times, The Times of London, Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune, BusinessWeek, The Economist, Time and U.S. News & World Report. He has appeared on news programs for Fox News and National Public Radio.
Mr. Bower is a frequent speaker on the legal profession. He has made presentations for legal groups throughout the world, including the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the Association of Legal Administrators, the Society of English and American Lawyers, The Economist, University of Pennsylvania Law School, Georgetown University Law Center, and many other bar associations, law schools, and legal associations. He taught for many years at the ABA/ICLE Strategic Planning Institute at the University of Michigan Business School.
He is a former leader in the ABA’s Law Practice Management Section and chaired the IBA Working Group on MDPs from 1996 to 2007. He is a Fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the College of Law Practice Management. He served as a member of the Board of Counselors of The Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University. In 2013, he was honored in the National Law Journal’s inaugural list of 50 Business of Law Trailblazers & Pioneers for his work on law firm mergers and acquisitions.
